Yve Fung-Cap was born on April 10, 1933, in Port-au-Prince Haiti to Pierre Fung-Cap and Cecil. He is the middle child of three siblings born of that union, with five extended brothers and sisters.
Yve dedicated his life to hard work, resilience, and new beginnings. He began his career in Haiti, with early aspirations as an artist, then working as an electrician before joining Reynolds Haitian Mines, contributing to the export of bauxite to the United States. In 1963, he embarked on preparing for his family toward a new chapter in the United States, navigating the complexities of immigration under the Chinese quota. Thanks to the efforts of Senator Edward Kennedy, the quota was lifted, allowing him to finally make his way to America with his wife, Raymonde in December 1965.
Upon arriving in New York, Yve and Raymonde sought tranquility and, with his sister in-law, Lisa Roumain’s encouragement, they moved to Chicago, where he found the peace and prosperity he sought, purchasing their first family home, living there for thirty years. He dedicated his career to Chicago Northwestern Railroad and later Chicago Transit Authority, where he worked diligently for twenty-eight years until his retirement in 1997. Although Chicago had a special place in his heart, he sought warmth and comfort in his later years and encouraged his wife to also retire. His sister-in-law once again recommended that they both relocate to Florida, and they purchased their second home. Yve spent the last 28 years of his life entertaining friends and traveling the world with his wife. His final journey was in 2019, when he visited his father's ancestral country, China.
Yves’ life was a testament to perseverance, adaptability and a generous spirit. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the contributions he made.
