William Michael Russell

April 11, 1944 – August 26, 2026

William Michael Russell, known to most simply as Michael and to others as Mick, Mike, or Mr. Russell, passed away on August 26, 2026, at the age of 82.

Michael was born on April 11, 1944, in Peoria, Illinois, and moved to Miami Shores in his youth. South Florida would be his home for the rest of his life. He spent the majority of his professional life as a teacher and educator, work he loved deeply, with most of it at Indian Trace Elementary School, where over the years he served in a number of roles. He had a natural way with children and a genuine love for teaching. After leaving Indian Trace and a brief retirement, he returned to work at Publix, where his warmth made him just as well loved as he had been in the classroom.

A devoted member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Michael carried his faith as the cornerstone of his life. It shaped the humble, grateful spirit that everyone around him came to know. He was easy to love and easy to be near, quick with a big laugh and a full-faced smile. He enjoyed a good round of golf, good music, and above all the quality time he shared with his friends and family. In every circle he moved through, he was well liked and warmly regarded.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Anne Russell, and his brother, Don.

He is survived by his three daughters, Amy; Becky and her husband, Jim; and Sarah and her husband, Matthew; his grandchildren, Brandon, Alexis, Maya, and Naomi; his brother, Rick and his wife, Lisa; his sister-in-law, Valerie; and the many friends and parishioners who loved him.
