Valerie Anne Tangney

November 15, 1939 — April 6, 2023

Our beloved Anne passed away on April 6, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family. Valerie Anne Tangney, known to most as just Anne, was born in Leeds, England in 1939, to her mother Mary Atkinson and was the youngest of three children after her brother Barry and sister Elaine. She was born in the midst of WWII and had a few interesting early life memories to share. As a tall, athletic youth Anne loved to play net ball and swim. In her early 20s, she decided to leave England behind and venture to the states. Anne’s love for the beach eventually led her to meet her handsome future husband Joe Tangney, although she claims it wasn’t love at first sight! Anne and Joe were married in 1968 and eventually settled in Freeport, NY, with their three children Craig, Darren, and Andrew. An opportunity arose through Joe’s job at Pan Am, to transfer to Fort Lauderdale where they bought a house in Sunrise and resided in that very home for over 40 years. In 1982, a parent’s worst nightmare occurred when their oldest son, Craig, died at the age of 9 years old after battling cancer for several months. Although the family was shattered, Anne used her strength and unwavering commitment to pick up the pieces and persevere as a family. Her unconditional love and devotion to her husband and children were like no other until the very end. The dictionary definition of the word Mother should have a picture of Anne Tangney attached. She embodies the finest qualities attributed any great mother in human history. She showed endless love, support, patience, understanding, generosity, humility, and empathy. Anne was also nurturing, caring, brave, strong, forgiving, respectful, honest, and inspirational. Not to mention being a goddess with her beauty accompanied by a humbling quiet intelligence. Anne loved to smile, laugh, and managed to find the positive in everything. Valerie Anne Tangney was too good for this world, and we were lucky to have her as long as we did. God will happily open the gates of Heaven for her. She will be missed for eternity here on Earth. She is survived by her husband Joseph Tangney, her son Andrew and wife Aisha, son Darren and wife Stacey, and grandchildren Bryce, Jaxson, Alisa, Deneice, and Layken that love her dearly. Graveside Service will be Friday 1:00PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements by T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home
