Listen to Obituary

Stephen Oliver Brevett was born on March 4, 1941, and passed away on April 10, 2026. He lived a full and remarkable life.

Stephen was born in the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica, to Stephen and Rachel Brevett. He was their second child. He is preceded in death by his older sister Phobie and his younger sister Lydia. He is survived by his sister Omelda and his brother Eugene. My dad leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Erica Brevett; his son, Michael Brevett; and his four daughters, Sandra Brevett, Marcia Brevett, Debonaire Rodriguez, and Michelle Brevett. He also leaves behind a nephew whom he loved as a son, Tony Lewis.

His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Faren Brevett, Stephen Rodriguez, Daniel Rodriguez, Olivia Brevett, Jade Jacob, Moesha Lisa Brevett, and Nichelle Molder—and his great-grandson, Elliot Grey Jacob. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and fellow believers. My dad grew up as a hardworking and loyal young man. Throughout his life, he pursued his dreams with focus, determination, and a spirit that refused to give up.

In his early years, he  worked at the Jamaica Bauxite Mining Company and at Seprod Limited before stepping out in faith to start his own welding business, along with other ventures. After dating Barbara McPherson for several years, they got married on June 24, 1967. Together, they built a home and raised their five children with love and strength.

In the 1970s, due to political violence and rising crime in Jamaica, dad made the difficult decision to close his business and migrate to the United States with his family.Starting over was not easy, but Stephen rebuilt his life from the ground up. He entered the marine mechanic industry, where he found great joy working on boats—big and small—and traveling across the country transporting vessels. With the unwavering support of his wife, Barbara, he once again built a successful business.

Though he was a strict father, Stephen grew into the most loving and cherished grandfather anyone could ask for. Barbara faithfully loved the Lord and spent years praying for our dad. On October 14th 2023, those prayers were answered—Stephen gave his life to Christ and was baptized, declaring Jesus as Lord.

Today, we grieve deeply because he is greatly missed by his wife, my mother, his daughters, grandchildren, all his other relatives and friends. Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice knowing that we will see him again in heaven. Dad, we love you more than words can express. Thank you for the life you built, the family you created, and the legacy you have left behind. Sail on dad!
