Listen to Obituary

Sophia Maria Hart, passed away October 9, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida.

The melody of Sophia Maria Hart’s life began in Plantation, Florida, and though her song ended far too soon, its beauty will echo for all who knew her. She passed away at the age of 20, a Junior at the University of Florida, where she pursued Mechanical Engineering with the curiosity, discipline, and quiet wonder that shaped everything she touched.

She is survived by her parents, Anita and Michael Hart; siblings: Lisa Hart and her partner, Jean Paul; Stefan Hart and his wife, Lauren; and twin sister, Loren Hart. Paternal grandmother, Patricia Ijames; paternal grandfather, Jim Hart; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Music was Sophia’s lifelong companion. She began violin lessons in 2014 and played until 2021, often sharing holiday performances with her dear teachers. In her school ensembles she moved easily between instruments such as clarinet, alto saxophone, and baritone saxophone, performing in marching, concert, and jazz bands. She brought that same spirit to Crossroads, the faith-based music group that filled school Masses with joy.

Her gifts extended beyond the arts. Sophia thrived in math competitions, speech and debate, and German studies, and found energy in the teamwork of softball and soccer. She was an active member of Campus Ministry, where her faith deepened and her compassion broadened.

Those closest to her remember a bright wit, a kind heart, and a soul attuned to harmony in sound, in thought, and in friendship.

She leaves behind partner Erik, whom she first met in fourth grade (2014) and began dating on St. Patrick’s Day 2021 during their sophomore year. He will remember her as a confidant, a guide, a steady source of laughter, love, and light throughout their four years, six months, and twenty-two days together.
