In Loving Memory of Pilar Tobalina de Rodriguez

Pilar Tobalina de Rodriguez was an extraordinary woman whose life was defined by love, devotion, and family. Born on January 26, 1935, she lived a long and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her presence brought confidence, strength, and warmth to her family, and the love she gave so freely will never be forgotten.

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Pilar was the daughter of Constantino Tobalina and Rosa Rolando and was a big sister to Gustavo Tobalina and Elena Viteri. Pilar was the loving mother of six children – Maria Rosa, Alberto (Beto), Pilar, Maria Isabel, Maria de Lourdes, and Juan Carlos. She was a cherished grandmother of Cassandra Sofia, Daniel, Adriana, Gaby, Tita, Cookie, Valeria, Paolo, Nicole, Nicolas, Danielle, and Samantha. She is survived by her husband, Alberto Rodriguez Navas, and five of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory forward with deep love and gratitude. On May 28 of this year, she was reunited with Juan Carlos, who had left us a year ago and was eagerly waiting for Mom to join him.

The family she helped build stands as one of the greatest reflections of her life.

Pilar loved to create beauty with her hands and took great joy in the many arts and crafts she practiced throughout her life. She enjoyed painting, sewing, knitting, and keeping herself busy with creative projects, always finding satisfaction in making something lovely and useful. She also took pride in keeping a clean, welcoming home, expressing her care for her family through the warmth and order she created for them. She loved traveling to Spain to visit her cousins and enjoyed cruising with Maria Rosa and her friends. Always dressed to impress, Pilar carried herself with grace, style, and a special elegance that made her unforgettable.

In her final years, Pilar faced the difficult journey of dementia with quiet courage. Throughout that time, her beloved daughter, Maria Rosa, cared for her with extraordinary tenderness and dedication for the last four years, offering her mother comfort, dignity, and steadfast love every day. That devotion was a beautiful expression of the strong bond they shared, and it will remain a lasting part of Pilar’s story.

Though Pilar passed in May, the love she planted in her family will continue to bloom for generations. She will be remembered for the life she gave, the family she nurtured, and the enduring love that surrounded her until the very end.

May her memory be a blessing, and may all who loved her find comfort in the beautiful life she lived.
