It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Pierre Giraud, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Pierre passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on July 15, 2025.
Born on March 20, 1937, in St. Barthélemy, French West Indies, Pierre’s life was filled with adventure, warmth, and an unwavering love for family. At age 11, he was sent to a seminary in Guadeloupe, where he remained for three years. The Monsignor, fond of young Pierre, once said: “You are very nice, we like you and want you to be good. You speak so well and people love talking to you because you are so smart. But your parents need you more.” So, at 14, Pierre returned home.
By 16, Pierre moved to St. Thomas to work and save money, eventually heading to Miami at 19 in search of new opportunities. In 1961, he married his first wife, Leonor Carvajalino, and together they had two children: Pierre Patrick “Pete” and Annette.
His job at Paul's Boat Supply introduced him to the marine industry, setting the course for a remarkable career. There, he met Al Haimes, and in 1975 the two, along with Raul Wahlberg, co-founded Land ‘N’ Sea Distributing, Inc., a marine supply company. Under Pierre’s leadership as President and CEO, the company grew from just a few employees into what is currently the largest marine wholesaler in the United States. Today, Land ‘N’ Sea is a division of Brunswick Corporation. After retiring, Pierre launched a consulting business in international marine distribution, continuing to share his expertise worldwide.
Though he never completed the eighth grade, Pierre spoke multiple languages and was a gifted communicator with a natural talent for sales. He often joked that he “sold everything for boats, except the boat.” He brought joy to every room, whether giving speeches, dancing at Land ‘N’ Sea events, or attending parties with friends. Island music and good company always made his feet, and his heart, happy.
Pierre’s greatest love, however, was his family. He raised his children with devotion, often playing both father and mother. He was a role model, a loving parent, a loyal friend, and a generous boss. He also had a deep appreciation for good red wine, fine food, and vibrant conversation.
Pierre is preceded in death by his beloved son Pete, daughter-in-law Patti (O’Boyle), parents Emilien and Floriane (Ledee), and brothers Clebert, Raymond, Roger, and Denis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alena Giraud (Zalud); adoring daughter, Annette Giraud Testa, and son-in-law, Michael; five grandchildren: Casey, Lindsay, Danielle, Cameron, and Alexander Pierre; his brothers Vincent and Nestor; sister-in-law Marie; his “second son” Will Dudman; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Pierre leaves behind a legacy of joy, kindness, and unforgettable memories. His story doesn’t end with his passing, he lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will never be forgotten.
Though Pierre left the island at 19, his heart never left St. Barth's. In accordance with his final wishes, his ashes will be buried there alongside his mother, father, and beloved son, Pete.
