Phyllis Scafuri Corra DeMasi passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, in Tamarac, Florida, at the age of 91. Born on April 16, 1935, Phyllis spent her early years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, growing up in Larimer and later Morningside before eventually making her home in South Florida.
After retiring from Sears following more than 40 years of dedicated service, she enjoyed many wonderful years in Plantation, Florida, surrounded by dear friends and neighbors who became like family.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Nick DeMasi; her cherished fur babies, Jacque and Harley; and her sister, Lorraine. She is survived by her brother, Michael Ciorra (Donna); her nieces, Renee Corra (Traci) and Michelle Ciorra (Carl); and many friends whose lives were enriched by her love, generosity, and friendship. She held a special place in her heart for Pam and Bob Mertz and Barb and Jerry Burkett, whose friendship meant so much to her through the years. Along with her great-niece, Natalie Dambrosio, whom Phyllis loved dearly. Natalie always kept in touch and cared deeply for Phyllis.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Phyllis loved the Lord and lived her life guided by His grace. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior.
Phyllis had a passion for music, especially Italian songs that brought back fond memories and filled her home with joy. She was an exceptional cook and loved gathering family and friends around her table for holiday dinners, where laughter, storytelling, and treasured memories were always on the menu. Whether sharing stories of growing up in Pittsburgh, reminiscing about living in Germany during Nick’s military service in the Korean War era, or reflecting on her many years working at Sears in East Liberty, Phyllis had a gift for bringing people together.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, steadfast faith, delicious meals, beautiful spirit, and the love she shared so freely with family and friends. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched and in the traditions, stories, and love she leaves behind.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles, I've only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am now, but as I used to be. Because I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand, in your hearts, I've only gone to rest a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.
There will be a celebration of life for Phyllis and her sister Lorraine Ciorra in their hometown of Pittsburgh on September 8th 2026 at 1:30 pm at Highland Park Rhododendron Pavilion.
