Peter Charles Schlesser, 88, of Tamarac, passed away on June 3, 2026. He was born to the late Anthony Schlesser and Lucille Berls on February 12, 1938, in New York City, New York. He graduated from the Academy of Aeronautics and was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He served as a Naval Aviator, piloting carrier-based surveillance planes. He went on to become an ordained Catholic deacon and served St. Bernard's parish in Detroit for 30 years. Peter was a member of the Kolping Society which is dedicated to spiritual growth and community service. In 2003 when he retired, Peter moved to Tamarac to live with his brother Stephen. Once there, he promptly volunteered to work on service projects in his community. Peter's love of flying continued throughout his life as he designed, built and flew model airplanes.
Peter was the beloved older brother to the late Ellen Sulborsky, John Schlesser and Stephen Schlesser. He is survived by his brother William Schlesser (Alexandra Scoulas). Peter is the much loved uncle of Brian Sulborsky (Laura), Courtney Mooney, Lindsay Schlesser (Jordan Wolfson), James Fitzgerald, Kristen Henneke (Brian) and Toni-Ann Lindbloom; great uncle of Haley and Mason Henneke and Rory Mooney. Peter enjoyed a loving relationship with his adopted Detroit family of Deacon Al and Betsy and their children Alison, Judy, Martin and James McNeely.Peter faced the joys and sorrows of life with gentle strength and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
