Olga Ruiz Mendez passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 at her home in Plantation.
She was born on June 27, 1928 to Jose and Elena Ruiz in the town of Cueto, in the Holguín Province of Cuba where she grew up with her large extended family.
In 1956 she married Armando Mendez and they settled in the Chicago area to start their lives together and where their three children were born. In 1968 the family moved to Plantation, Florida to be closer to family and friends and where she lived until her death.
Olga loved being with her family and close friends more than anything and was an anchor in keeping everybody close and connected. She was happiest when she hosted family gatherings in the home she loved so much. She lived a long full life with many moments of joy and happiness and as in any life there were also times of sorrow and sadness. It was during those latter time that she showed us how to face hardship with strength, dignity, acceptance and perseverance.
Olga is survived by her son Armando and daughter Maria, her children-in-law Gretchen and Mark, her four grandchildren, Jesse, Natalie, Angelina and Leo, her sister and brother-in-law Noemi and Ramon, and her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She will be missed but will live on in all of our hearts and memories.
Visitation will be at TM Ralph Funeral Home at 7001 NW 4th St, Plantation FL, Saturday, February 4th, 2023, from 3-5pm.
