Nereyda Rebello

Nereyda Rebollo, formerly Nereyda Soria, was born in Havana, Cuba on June 24, 1935, to Valentin and Josefina Soria. She passed away on December 27, 2025, in Miami, Florida, after a courageous four-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

It was in Havana that she met and married Sabino Rebollo on November 19, 1955. They had two children. Nereyda managed the household and raised their two kids while Sabino worked in the Shoe Business in Havana. In May of 1962, Nereyda and Sabino fled the Castro Revolution and came to America with the two young children settling in the “Down Neck” section of Newark, New Jersey.

Nereyda lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and devotion to family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and dedicated her life to giving them all she could. She routinely emphasized the importance of education to her children. They both listened to her advice and became successful professionals.

Her granddaughter Melissa was incredibly special to her. She always brought a huge smile to her and treasured every moment spent with her.

By 1986, Nereyda and Sabino semi-retired and relocated to South Florida. They enjoyed taking cruises with their friends and traveled extensively. She enjoyed the culture, music and food of Spain and her native Cuba but loved America. She saw America as the land of opportunity, liberty, and freedom. Sadly, she never got to see a free Cuba.

Nereyda was predeceased by her parents and her husband. He passed in May 2020. She is survived by her son, Carlos Rebollo, and his wife Laura Day-Rebollo; daughter, Nery Pagella, and her husband Anthony; and granddaughter, Melissa Rebollo. She is also survived by her four siblings.
