Brelsford, 88, died on Sunday, August 9, 2020 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on October 21, 1931 and was the oldest child and only daughter of George Hermantin and Marie (Occenad) Hermantin. She completed her primary and secondary education at Institution du Sacre-Coeur de Turgeau as well as nursing school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Monique married Dr. Raymond Poux on October 21, 1948. She was a registered nurse and her cherished husband, an obstetrician and gynecologist. Together, they founded a maternity hospital, Clinique Maternite Raymond Poux in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. They were blessed with their four beloved daughters, Kathleen, Michelle, Danielle, and Monique. In the early 1960s Monique emigrated to the United States with her family and settled in Brooklyn and later Queens, New York where she continued to work as a dedicated nurse and member of the New York State Nurses Association. Her career would go on to include administrative and nursing supervision positions at Jamaica, Coler, and Goldwater Memorial Hospitals in New York City where she was also a leader in infection control and equipment sterilization practices. She was widowed in 1972. Monique later married Charles ("Chuck") Brelsford, an engineer, and moved to Red Bank, New Jersey. She was joined in New Jersey by her beloved mother, Marie. Monique was further blessed with the addition of her stepchildren, Chuck and Carol. Monique’s New Jersey home was the setting of many years of happy family holiday dinners, summer poolside barbecues, "camp Mamienono" and family reunions. In 1989, Monique and Charles ("Chuck") retired and moved with her mother to Sunrise, Florida. Sadly, Chuck passed away that same year and the couple's dream to retire together in Florida was cut short. Monique was regarded as an expert cook and an impeccable hostess who enjoyed gourmet cooking and entertaining friends and family. Her home in Sunrise, Florida continued on as the family hub for hosting large family gatherings on special occasions and holidays and hosting summers with her grandchildren, including an epic trip to Disney World. Always passionate about the nursing profession, Monique maintained her nursing license and certifications for many years post retirement and returned to work at Broward Health Medical Center as a supervisory maternity nurse in the mother/baby unit. After her second retirement, Monique spent her free time gardening, sewing, going to lunches and movies with friends and enjoying time with her family. She also loved cruising and had a soft spot for rescue dogs. As a devout Roman Catholic, Monique was involved with her church and attended mass every weekend. Later in life, she moved to The Bridge at Inverrary Assisted Living Facility in Fort Lauderdale, FL where she passed away peacefully after an illness. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Raymond Poux and Mr. Charles Brelsford, her daughter, Danielle Poux of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, her grandson, Harold Johnson of Red Bank, NJ, and her brother and sister-in-law Roch and Theresa Hermantin of Sunrise, FL. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Kathleen and Thomas Stein of Queens, NY; Michelle and Raymond Audain of Plantation, FL; and Monique Johnson and Charles Arentsen of Ft. Myers, FL, her grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Rachel Ben-David of Weston, FL; Joel and Mandy Stein of Severna Park, MD; Sabrina and Garrett Elsinger of Weston, FL; Deborah and Chris Patterson of Rockville, MD; Eric Johnson of Red Bank, NJ; and Monique Johnson and Lauren Underwood of Glendale, AZ, her great-grandchildren, Emma, Nate, Talia, Garrett, Alana, Ethan, Noah, Aria, Asher, Noah, Liam, and Zachary, and her step children and grandchildren, Chuck Brelsford of Bixby, OK; Carol Habowski of Marysville, WA; Danielle Thomas of Granite Falls, WA; and Derek Habowski of Spanaway, WA. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Frank and Almut Hermantin of Wantagh, NY and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is greatly loved and missed by the many lives she touched. May she Rest In Peace. Funeral Mass Saturday, September 12, 2020 9:30 AM Saint Gregory The Great Catholic Church 200 N.
