Mikayla Cherrie Roth was born June 25, 2024 and died May 12, 2025 from complications due to Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards Syndrome. She is survived by her parents, Matthew and Georgia Roth and her brothers, Jethro and Jude.
Mikayla resided in Planation, Florida. She was loved by many: the Roth family of Bergen County, New Jersey, the Hampton, Faison, Villinis, Mayfield, Broyles and Burrage families of Scott County, Iowa, as well as the Scott family of Polk County, Iowa.
She was a happy baby with a beautiful smile. She rarely cried and enjoyed a good stretch first thing in the morning. She loved to be held. She enjoyed watching cartoons and playing patty cake with her brothers. She liked her car seat and enjoyed taking car rides.
Though her life was short, she made a lasting impression on her family. She was pure love. We will miss her forever.
In her relatively brief but marvelously impactful time with us, Mikayla packed so much joy and love in her little body. A body which ultimately proved insufficient for containing such a prodigious soul.
As mournful as we feel now, we are humbly honored and grateful to God for having assigned us as Mikayla's parents. It's a great privilege to have been able to share in her life.
As difficult as it is to accept the reality of the death of a very young child, the toughest time in this journey was when we first received confirmation that Mikayla was Trisomy 18-positive, a condition from which we were informed by the medical community that the overwhelming majority of infants don't make it to childbirth, and the few that do typically don't survive much more than a number of hours, days or weeks. Miraculously, our gorgeous, spunky little girl lived and thrived for nearly a full year.
We'd be remiss if we failed to mention the fact that we were far from alone in caring for Mikayla. We have nothing but admiration and respect for the entire outstanding team of doctors and nurses at the Memorial Hospital NICU in Hollywood, Florida, where our baby girl spent the first six weeks of her life, to her pediatricians, orthopedists, cardiologists, and gastroenterologists.
We also want to give special thanks to the Support Organization for Trisomy (SOFT) for their love and support.
Mikayla, our darling little girl:
Thank you for blessing us with your presence. We love you and miss you. You will always be part of us and we of you.
Hugs and Kisses,
Daddy, Mommy, Jethro, Jude, Ru Mai, and Lalo
