MARILYN ROGERS

Marilyn Rogers (née Wharton) was born on September 3, 1945, in San Fernando, Trinidad, West Indies, to Alicia and Rudolph Wharton. She was one of seven children, growing up in a lively household with her five brothers—Rudolph, Vernon, David, Peter, and Michael—and her beloved sister, Victoria.

Marilyn’s early years were spent in Trinidad, where she attended Fyzabad Elementary School and Fyzabad Intermediate School in San Fernando. Always eager to learn, she later went on to The Unity School of Commerce where she studied typing—a skill that would serve her well in her professional life. Her career began at United Parcel Service, where she worked for 10 years. Marilyn then joined CSX Rail as a clerk, dedicating 30 years of service before retiring.

After making the bold move in 1967 to migrate from Trinidad to the United States, she settled in Chicago, Illinois. After retirement, she embraced a new adventure in Florida, where she continued to serve others as a home health aide, bringing comfort and joy to seniors in need.

Marilyn’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. Baptized at age 12 in the Anglican church, she was a devoted member of St. Benedict Episcopal Church, singing in the choir and serving with the altar guild. She was an avid Bible scholar who was well-versed in God’s Word. Even when she could no longer attend in person, she remained a faithful digital attendee, cherishing her church family and pastor.

Known for her passion for fashion, Marilyn was always impeccably dressed, with coifed hair, manicured nails, and flawless makeup. She loved to travel and explore the world. Marilyn’s kitchen was famous for mouthwatering Caribbean cuisine—her chicken curry, roti, salt fish and fried bake, pelau, sweet bread, and black cake were legendary...among MANY other delectable delights! Family and friends alike looked forward to the joy and flavor she brought to every gathering. Everything she created was sure to tantalize your tastebuds and bless your belly.

Above all, Marilyn adored her family. She was cherished by her siblings and doted on her nieces and nephews, treating each one of them as her very own. Her warmth, laughter, and wisdom left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

On Wednesday, July 14, 2026, Marilyn was called home to the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alicia Baisden Wharton and Rudolph Wharton; her sister, Victoria R. Wharton; and her brothers, Rudolph L. Wharton (Lillian), Vernon F. Wharton, David L. Wharton (Rochelle), and Peter A. Wharton. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Michael M. Wharton, her sister-in-law Lillian Wharton, and a host of cousins including the Richardsons and the Maillards, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Marilyn’s life was a beautiful blend of faith, fun, and family—a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew her.
