Marie Alberta Flood, a beloved figure whose heart and spirit touched everyone around her, gracefully departed from this world on December 14, 2025, in Plantation, Florida, at the age of 97. Born on April 10, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Marie embodied warmth and kindness throughout her vibrant life.

Educated at Mount Assisi Academy, an all-girls high school, Marie shone as the Queen of her high school prom, a reflection of her outgoing personality that would endear her to many. Those who knew her often described her as the "soft and fuzzy" part of the family, creating countless cherished memories for those fortunate enough to share in her life.

Marie’s career reached a delightful pinnacle when she rode on the City of Pittsburgh float as Queen in their parade, an honor she embraced while working for the city. Her love of life drew people to her, and her ability to spread joy was truly remarkable.

In 1957, Marie moved to South Florida, marking the beginning of a beautiful chapter as she met and married the love of her life, John F. Flood. They embarked on a journey together that would last 67 wonderful years. Their love story came to life as they moved to Atlanta while John pursued his education at Georgia Tech. With John's graduation in 1960, they faced new horizons, spending 12 memorable years in Southern California before returning to their “home” in South Florida in 1971.

Marie and John proudly raised their family while being active members of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church for the past 42 years. Together, they created a loving atmosphere filled with laughter and companionship, leaving a legacy of love that resonates deeply within the hearts of those who knew her.

Marie is mourned by her devoted husband, John F. Flood, and their son, David F. Flood. She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sandra R. Deakins, and her cherished parents, Lillian Slobodnik and John Stephen Slobodnik. While the family feels the profound absence of Marie’s gentle spirit, they hold tightly to the joyous memories and the enduring love that she fostered throughout her life.

As we celebrate the life of Marie Alberta Flood, we remember a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and brought sunshine into the lives of those around her. Her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire and uplift all who had the privilege of knowing her.
