Lynda Patricia McAlister went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2024 in Plantation, Florida at the age of 69. She is survived by her two children, Lindsey (Patrick) Delaney, Christopher (Jessica) Rodrigue, and her 5 siblings—sisters Virginia and Mary Crosbie and brothers Steven (Linda), William (Connie), and Thomas (Albania) Crosbie. She is preceded in death by her mother Alice Crosbie and father Lawrence Crosbie.
Lynda was born on July 26, 1955 in Miami, Florida to Alice and Lawrence Crosbie. She grew up in both Miami and Cape Cod and attended Bourne High School in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and graduated from Miami Springs High School, in Miami, Florida, with the encouragement from her cousin Gene. After high school, she joined the U.S. Army National Guard and convinced several others to do the same. During her time in boot camp, she called her mother daily and shared that the drill sergeants were “too mean and they make me run.” Sufficed to say, she decided that she wasn’t suited to the military lifestyle.
She moved to Louisiana in 1979 and forged friendships there that would last a lifetime. She worked many jobs that included being a bartender, hair dresser, and team leader for Hallmark Cards. Her favorite job was being a mother to her children.
Lynda was creative. She enrolled in writing courses at Oklahoma City Community College for a short time. She wrote poems, songs, journaled, and created macrame in her younger years. She loved music, animals, cooking, politics, and watching her soaps. She gave to others more of herself than she had. She cherished spending time with and talking to her family. She called her children and siblings daily to check in with them.
She was wonderfully imperfect. She was vulnerable, brave, warm, generous, kind, empathetic, and even a bit stubborn. She endured and tried her best in the face of hardship. When she loved you, she loved with her entire heart.
We will miss your smile, your laugh, and your phone calls. Thank you for loving us.
“Love doesn't die with death. Love is like liquid; when it pours out, it seeps into others' lives. Love changes form and shape. Love gets into everything. Death doesn't conquer all; love does. Love wins every single time. Love wins by lasting through death. Love wins by loving more, loving again, loving without fear.” -Emily O’Neill
