July 16, 1943 — November 2, 2021

Leonel Alberu Gomez, 78, peacefully passed away on November 2, 2021 surrounded by his family and loved ones in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Leonel was born on July 16th, 1943 in Mexico City to Leonel Alberu Souto and Amelia Gomez Abascal. At the age of three, him and his family moved to Havana, Cuba. After Leonel graduated from Colegio de Belen in Cuba in 1960, he pursued a degree in Chemical Engineering at UNAM in Mexico City. Leonel travelled the world as an engineering consultant for distilleries, specializing in alcohol and oils, an industry he was passionate about. His work took him and his family to live in several countries in America including, Venezuela, Colombia, El Salvador, Aruba, Mexico and the United States. In the early nineties, Leonel took over the ownership and leadership of Aceites Especiales, SA in Toluca, Mexico, a company started by his father Leonel Sr. and continued his legacy. In 1968 in Mexico, he married Graciela Rivera, whom he had met in Cuba as teens. Leonel and Graciela went on to have two children, Leonel and Viviana Alberu Rivera. In 1995 in Venezuela, he met his wife of 25 years, Beatriz Saez. In true Leonel and Beatriz fashion they got married in a boat in the Florida Keys. Together they raised their daughter Gabriela. In his free time, Leonel was an avid domino player and music lover. Those that spent time with him knew his love for the arts, baseball, watches and fast cars. His generosity, full of life spirit and his iconic catchphrases will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky to have met him. Leonel joins his father, Leonel, mother, Amelia, and first wife Graciela in Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Beatriz, his children, Leonel, Viviana and Gabriela, his three grandchildren and his six sisters. Services will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1301 SW 136th Ave, Davie, FL 33325 on November 11, 2021 at 10:30am.
