Jovita Garcia Fernandez entered eternal rest on March 20th at her home with her family. She lived her life with quiet strength and an unwavering love for her family. Above all else, she carried a constant hope that her two children were always safe, cared for and surrounded by love.
Born in, Maizales, Puerto Rico, a small farming community in May 1929. While her childhood was challenging she was always surrounded by the love of a large family. She took a brave leap at a young age and journeyed to New York determined to build a better life. This was an unusual step for a Hispanic woman in the 1950s. It was there that she met, Angel Fernandez, who had come from Cuba with the same dream of starting anew.
They married in 1952. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work, sacrifice, and deep family values. Their greatest treasure was the blessing of two children, Barbara and Angelo. They worked hard and long hours. They carefully saved, bought a home and settled in Fort Lauderdale, fulfilling the American dream but still continued to prosper. They were so proud to have their children obtain graduate degrees. While her husband pursued opportunities and changed careers to provide for the family, she was the steady force behind it all—the backbone who kept everything grounded, safe and moving forward.
She was strong-willed, faithful, a woman who prayed, yet full of humor—quick with a witty remark. Her strength and determination was matched only by her love and that love is what will be remembered most.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Barbara Fernandez Valdes, son in law Osvaldo L Valdes; loving son, Angel O Fernandez, daughter in law, Donna Shell Fernandez; grandsons, Osvaldo A Valdes and Christopher J Valdes; granddaughters, Brittany Fernandez Class ( Robert A Class); Shayla Fernandez Vieira ( Michael Vieira); great-grand children, Raye I Class, Lennon Vieira and Harrison Vieira. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews and affectionately close friends, among many, Lillian Cruz Collins, Yolanda Femia, Norma Vega and Zoraida Vega.
A note of gratitude to the caring staff of VITAS Clermont, Lake County, FL.
