John J. Donovan, Jr.

John Joseph Donovan, Jr, 81, of Plantation, FL, passed away in the early morning hours on August 26th, 2026. Funeral services will be held at St. Gregory Catholic Church on Saturday, November 7th, at 9:30 AM.

Born in Frederick, Maryland on February 8, 1945, to John and Harriett Donovan, John graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College with a BA in History. After serving in the U.S. Army, John enjoyed a successful career as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 57 years, Susan Donovan, his loving children, Matthew Donovan (Heather) and Justin Donovan (Julie), and the legacy of three grandchildren: Allie, Kate, and Jack.

Always active and curious, John was not one to sit still, unless of course, he was reading or watching sports. He liked hiking, cycling, woodworking, bird watching and especially enjoyed summer vacations in Maine. He kept detailed records of his travels, the birds he saw, the medals his grandchildren won, and even the Sunday phone calls from his boys. His 81 years of discipline and devotion to God, country, and family leave an enduring legacy.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or to the Arbor Day Foundation in memory of John Joseph Donovan, Jr. Friends and family are invited to St. Gregory Catholic Church on November 7th.
