Joann Yanovik Stevens, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Plantation, Florida, at the age of 75. Born on June 15, 1950, in Tacoma, Washington, Joann's journey through life was marked by her dedication to family, community service and her profession as a Registered Nurse.
Joann pursued her education with passion, attending Keuka College, where she began to build a foundation for a life devoted to helping others. She later earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Nursing from UMass-Lowell. Her career flourished at Mid-Maine Medical Center in Waterville, Maine, where she worked in the Emergency and Radiology Departments. Joann's commitment to her patients and her colleagues exemplified her compassion and care.
Family was at the heart of Joann's life. She cherished her loved ones dedicating hours each year baking Christmas cookies to share and making treats for care packages. Her warm presence and love will always be remembered by her husband of 54 years, Alan Stevens; her children, Jeff Stevens and Hillary Arroyo; and her grandchildren William and Paige Arroyo. Joann also shared a special bond with her siblings, including her brother, Edward Dunlap and wife Michele Dunlap, and her sister, Cyndi Dunlap and husband Tom Forbes.
Outside of her professional and family life, Joann found joy in adventures. Whether a day-trip to the Everglades or a week in Croatia, she was always interested in learning about new places. She also enjoyed sewing and reading, pursuits that allowed her to express her creativity and nurture her spirit. Moreover, Joann dedicated her time to volunteering with the Cub Scouts and the Pennywise Thrift Store, where her generous heart and willingness to give back made a difference in her community.
Joann Yanovik Stevens leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her, and her memory will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held in New England this summer. Respecting her love of pets and all animals, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society, Thomaston, ME (popehumane.org).
