James "Jimmy" F Hayes III

James F. Hayes III passed peacefully from this life on September 13, 2023. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family, friends and brothers in blue. James was born on July 8th,  1965 in Brooklyn, New York. He later went on to play football at Stony Brook University. James and his family moved to Florida in 2004 where he lived the remainder of his life. 

James leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service and an indelible mark on the law enforcement community. His 35-year career in law enforcement is a testament to his unwavering commitment to keeping society safe from the most violent offenders. For the past nine years, Detective Hayes served diligently in the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) Homicide Unit, utilizing his exceptional investigative skills to solve countless cases. Prior to BSO, James retired from the NYPD where he assisted in the heroic search and clean up efforts following 9/11. He is a hero to so many. 

James was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He shared over three decades of love and companionship with his beloved wife Kimberly. Together they built a loving family that was Jim's source of joy and pride. 

Jim Hayes will forever be remembered by his four children: Caitlin (28), Megan (24), James (22), and Erin (15). A pillar of strength for them throughout their lives, Jim instilled in each of them values of integrity and empathy. They will forever cherish the memories they shared with their devoted father. In addition to his children, Jim leaves behind four adored grandchildren: Laila (7), Caiden (4), Mason (1), and Emma (3 months old). Their lives have been enriched by their grandfather's love and kindness, and his legacy will live on through them.

James is also survived by his mother Anne Marie and three siblings Anne Marie, Eileen and John Patrick. 

Services to honor the life of Detective James F. Hayes III will be held at the T.M. Ralph Funeral Home Sawgrass/Weston in Sunrise, Florida. The viewing will take place on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The service will start at 11:00 AM, allowing friends, family, and colleagues to pay their final respects.
