Listen to Obituary

Iraida Madera Santiago, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on July 30, 2025, at her home in Boca Raton, Florida, after a long and courageous battle with renal cancer, surrounded by her cherished loved ones. Born on December 22, 1943, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Iraida lived a rich and vibrant life, dedicated to her family and fueled by her passions.

Iraida’s career began in the field of insurance as an underwriter for Fireman's Fund Insurance. However, as a devoted mother, she transitioned to a career in real estate, becoming an agent for Century 21. This change allowed her the flexibility she desired to spend precious moments with her children, nurturing her role as a mother while thriving professionally.

She was a proud graduate of Colegio La Merced, later earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico. Known for her kind heart, unwavering stubbornness, and quick wit, she had an extraordinary ability to uplift those around her with laughter and love. Everyone who knew her, loved her.

Family meant everything to Iraida; she was truly happiest when surrounded by her immediate and extended family. Her grandchildren shone bright in her eyes, and she dedicated herself to being part of their lives, spending joyful times with them in North Carolina and later in Florida with her youngest grandson. Her daughter Charmaine fondly recalls the special moments they shared, filled with laughter while cooking and playfully teasing each other. Her son, Jorge, remembers all of the memories they shared with their families.

Iraida relished her hobbies and interests, finding solace and joy in painting and sketching. A creative and generous spirit, she often cooked meals for those in need, extending her love to anyone fortunate enough to enjoy her culinary talents. She loved the arts, in particular music and dancing. She approached life with enthusiasm, never passing up an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends.

Iraida is survived by her daughter Charmaine Terregino (Santiago) and her husband Steven, along with their three children, Roman (14), Julian (11), and Vivienne (10); and her son Jorge William Santiago III, his partner Janet Talibgos, and their son Jorge William Santiago IV (4). She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Jose “Papo” Madera and his wife Marie and her sister Josefina "Josie" Madera Santiago. Her many nieces, nephews, and their children will also forever hold her memory dear.

Iraida was preceded in death by her father Jose Madera, her mother Isidra Santiago, and her husband Jorge William Santiago II. Her proudest accomplishments were certainly her children and grandchildren, who carry forward her spirit, love, and tenacity.

While we grieve the loss of Iraida, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was—a loving force of nature who enriched the lives of everyone she encountered. Though she may no longer walk among us, her legacy will forever endure in the hearts she touched and the memories made.
