We are saddened to announce the passing of Henry G. Thomas, age 89 of Tamarac, FL on July 23, 2024. He died at Harbor Chase Memory Care Center after a long, courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease. A dedicated American and a wonderful father will be missed!
Henry was born in Milan, Georgia. He graduated from Milan High School in 1952 where he was a star basketball player. He later attended ABAC in Tifton, GA, where he graduated with a degree in Agriculture and played on the basketball team for 2 years under the legendary coach Gressette.
Henry was a veteran of the USAF serving from 1954 to 1984 retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant (CMSGT). He then worked for the United States Government for 11 years and 9 months with the Federal Management Agency (FEMA) before retiring on December 31, 1996. Henry was also a certified umpire and referee. He officiated softball, baseball and basketball games for many years around the country.
Henry was the son of the late Lula Mae Yawn Thomas and the late Virgil Lee Thomas, Sr. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Virgil Lee Thomas, Jr., James E. Thomas, Robert E. Thomas, Harry L. Thomas and Walter Earl Thomas.
Henry was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 59 years, Edeltraud Thomas. Edeltraud's unfailing support and understanding helped to make possible his lasting contribution to the nation until he retired from the United States Air Force. Henry and Edeltraud had a loving marriage and together were dedicated parents and mentors. Henry and Edeltraud traveled the world throughout their marriage and were blessed with wonderful fulfilling lives.
Henry is survived by his children, David Thomas, Linda Darwish and grandson Thomas Darwish.
