It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Louise DeWitt (Joynt) on June 26, 2022. Helen, 94, passed away at Meridian at the Waterways Assisted Living Facility in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Helen was born on May 17, 1928 in Decatur, IL to Everett E. and Maude C. Joynt. She attended Millikin University where she met her future husband. Helen married Arnold E. DeWitt of Mt. Vernon, IL on December 22, 1951. They resided in Mt. Vernon where Helen was a homemaker. In 1968 they moved to Florida which is where they remained. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Arnold, parents, brother William E. Joynt and sister-in-law Irma M. Joynt along with many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her nieces Debra Pflum (Larry) and Lori Boyce (Kenny), great nieces Jamie Duggan (Colin), Courtney Zielinski (Phil) and Chelsea Boyce, great nephews Brandon Boyce and Brian Boyce, great great nephews Logan and Brody Duggan and Calvin Zielinski. Helen was actively involved in the PEO Sisterhood, Plantation Women’s Club, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the Ft. Lauderdale Presbyterian Church where she was a member for 40 years. Helen was creative and enjoyed crafting, knitting, sewing and painting. She had a great love for family, friends, animals and Barry Manilow. Helen (affectionately known as Weezie) enjoyed spending summers in the Midwest with her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed shopping, dining (anywhere she could get a good order of Coconut Shrimp), attending concerts, museums and making homemade ice cream and mango bread for her nieces and nephews. She was often on her computer printing out new recipes to try on her family. Private services will be held in Mt. Vernon, IL.
