Hector Junco, M.D., loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away surrounded by family in his home on June 10th, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born April 24th, 1947 in Havana, Cuba, Hector came to the United states in 1960, fleeing communist rule to start anew in Tampa, Fl.
From there, Hector’s future would take him around the world, living in Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Virginia, Georgia, Daytona Beach and finally Plantation, Florida, where he settled with his family. For over 40 years, he was a family physician in South Florida. He placed human dignity above all else, and was remembered for treating his patients with less financial resources free of charge and for his numerous volunteer efforts, including in Homestead immediately after Hurricane Andrew.
He also had a profound sense of duty. Neither sickness nor his uncanny talent for finding himself in an accident, whether kerosene burns or falling off multiple ladders and fracturing multiple bones, would keep him from seeing his patients.
His mission of delivering care continued until the day before his passing; always working to tend his children and grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his tireless work to provide for his family, expressing his love-language of cooking for anyone willing to exchange good food with good company. He taught us that the world should be explored and that culture should be shared and experienced.
He is survived by his wife Aida, with whom he was married for 52 years; his children, Alexandro, Gustavo, Carla and Gabriela; six grandchildren, Amalia, Alizée, Sebastian, Liliana, Marcos and Valentina; and his sister, Alicia Junco.
A funeral will be held at T.M. Ralph Funeral Homes on Tuesday, June 17th from 5:00 p.m.-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Hector’s legacy is one of focus, strength, duty, wisdom, love of life and family and friends.
