On June 17, 2026 our loving Dad, Grandpa, and Pop Pop, Glenn Errol Riner, was called home to be with the Lord. He died peacefully at home in Plantation, FL where he had lived for over 57 years. Glenn was born November 2, 1930, an only child to Melvin and Evlyn Riner in Richmond, Virginia. He went to college at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. He was very passionate about his VA Tech Hokies, especially football. He was in the Cadet Corp and played baritone in the band while at VA Tech. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduating and served 2 years.
Soon he moved to FL and met his future wife Edith on a blind date. They married in 1957 and raised 3 children. Glenn and Edith were known to do just about everything together. Glenn was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was active in church serving as an elder and volunteering to help with the youth group. His love for the Lord was evident in his daily life. Even these last few years he would start singing an old hymn out of the blue which brought him and those around him joy. We will remember him as always being ready for a card game, his love of the pool and ocean, his meticulous popcorn popping skills, the way he took care of us, his many walks around the neighborhood, reading his Bible in a year Bible, the way he kissed mom all the time, and his love of chocolate ice cream. There are so many things we will miss about him. We have the hope that he is rejoicing in heaven with his Honey and we will see both of them again one day.
Glenn was predeceased by his wife Edith of over 68 years and his grandson Stephen Beadles. He is survived by his children Sharon Beadles (Bo), Paul Riner, and Mary Riner; his grandchildren Lance Alvarado (Crystal), Jess Miller (Byron), Sarah Surls (Jon), and Melanie Carpentier (Chris); great grandchildren Nia Hasley, Madison Surls, Andrew Surls, Noah Surls and Lennon Carpentier.
We are very grateful for Adula, Jeanette, Anna, and Wiltha for the love and care they gave to dad and their friendship with us. We could not have cared for dad at home without you. Special thanks to everyone at the VA as well.
Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me, shall never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:25,26
