Elizabeth Edna Ferguson, also known as “Betty” by her peers, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023 with her two daughters lovingly by her side.
Born on August 18, 1937 in Mineola, New York she was raised by her Aunt Edna and Uncle Joseph.
Growing up in Mineola, Betty spent much of her youth enjoying activities such as dancing and roller skating. She later departed New York for Massachusetts raising her children in the suburbs of Boston before moving to Florida in 1971.
One of Bettys greatest passions in life was cooking, she couldn’t be kept out of the kitchen. She went from cooking at home for the family where her famous words… “What’s for dinner” echoed throughout the house, to waitressing and cooking for establishments in Plantation like “Webby’s”. Before deciding to open up her own restaurant, “Betty’s Kitchen” in 2005. Many patrons from all over Plantation gathered together to enjoy Betty’s home cooked meals and humor. She got so much joy seeing her dining room filled with customers, she had a natural way of connecting with people, so effortlessly she almost floated around the restaurant talking and laughing with her customers.
When she wasn’t in the kitchen, Betty could be found tending to her garden planting beautiful rose bushes and keeping up with her violets. On the weekends, she was a NASCAR fanatic especially for her beloved Dale Earnhardt, equally she loved to root on her Miami Heat and Dwayne Wade.
Living in Plantation for over 50 years many of her family and friends remember Betty for her bright, bold and magnetic energy bringing laughter and smiles to all as well as her fiery personality, her quick wit, and a woman who didn’t mince her words when speaking her mind.
Betty made an impact on so many lives and was considered a mother figure who welcomed people in her home with open arms, a warm meal and fresh pot of coffee. She will be remembered as an independent, caring and strong-willed woman who overcame so much adversity throughout her life, a stage 4 cancer survivor of 22 years, Betty was a fighter until the end!
Betty will be deeply missed by friends and family she is survived by her children Elizabeth Dowling (James Dowling), Jack Ramu, Louis Ramu, Richard Ramu, Raymond Ramu (Michelle Ramu) and Patricia Ferguson as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
