Di Paola, Edward was peacefully carried to heaven at home on Saturday, June 27, 2026. He was 91 years old. Edward, also known as ‘My Honey,’ Dad, Ed, Eddie, Eddie D and Poppy was born on April 23, 1935, only son of Calogero & Maria (Vispetto) Di Paola in Brooklyn, New York.

Edward proudly served 8 years in the United States Army and went on to dedicate 32 years of his life to law enforcement. He served 14 years with the Hempstead Police Department as a Detective in Nassau County New York. He and his wife moved the family to Florida in 1974. He then served 8 years with the Sunrise Police Department rising to the rank of Captain. He then joined the Broward Sherriff’s Office and retired as a Sergeant leading investigations for his district after 10 years in 1991. He met his best friend and future wife in 1965 while he was covering a fellow officer’s shift on Fulton & Main Street, Hempstead, NY. They married in 1968. He was a “true blue” police officer, committed to his oath to serve and protect the public. He was a loving father to his 3 sons, always spending time with them growing up from riding bikes, playing racquetball, and playing around in the pool. Family time was important to him, always taking the family on vacations and spending time together. He was very proud of them as they became adults. He had a love for food and getting together with family, planning daily dinner meals for his wife, and exploring deli’s and supermarkets for deals. He was one of a kind, always loved to share life stories from the early years having grown up in a time before technological advancements. He was blessed with 4 beautiful granddaughters, as they brought him so much joy. He will be greatly missed by us, but also by so many that got to know him. They say that time heals all but when you lose a loved one, it will take a lifetime, if ever.

He is survived by his loving wife Dora of 58 years; three sons, Edward “Butch” (Kathleen), Doug (Sandy) and Darren (Maria); along with 4 granddaughters, Taylor, Hunter (Caeden), Kristin (Michael) and Brianna (Ryan).

A celebration of life will be planned by the family at a future date.
