Edna Kosky 05/05/1938 - 06/07/2021
Edna Kosky, also known as Grandma and mom Edna by many was born in England. Her mother Elsie was a homemaker and Father John was in the Military and an excellent baker. She was one of five children. She started to work at the age of 14 years old and at the age of 19 decided to move to America! Her childhood friend Mavis and her would talk of America and Mavis moved just shortly before Mom and she followed. Then another friend followed and five girls ended up sharing an apartment in New York. Mavis has been her friend for over 65 years.
As time went on, Mom met my Dad Joseph Kosky. He was a brick mason and worked in Hotels. They came to Florida, were Married and worked together at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, where she was pregnant with me. They moved back to NY for a short time, but long enough for me to be born. Then traveled back to Florida. My Mom became a US citizen, and was the only one in her family to leave England.
My Mom took care of us both and watched other children as a side job. She was always taking me to baton lessons, swimming, to the park and was the Girl Scout cookie mom. We were always together doing school projects, gardening, and building a house on the side. My Mom and dad built a house that took them over five years of nights and weekends. It was there dream and we lived there for a couple years until the house was sold.
My dad also had a large family and we often took trips to Daytona to see his family, and to England to see hers. They loved to travel the English country side with my Aunt June and Uncle Sam to visit old castles and houses. All while I rode in the trunk of a Volkswagen bug. We went to Scotland and Wales in that VW and saw lots of England.
My Mom was married for 26 years, until they divorced in 1991. I got married in 1991 to Brian Cahir, so Mom traveled back to England to meet the second love of her life Barry Dickson. I consider Barry my step dad and Love him Dearly. They have been together 30 years in both England and America. They have traveled so many places! They loved to travel the country side and seashores of England. They went to Egypt, Jerusalem, and Ireland. While in Ireland they visited Cahir Castle. They drove boats down the canals of England to explore different towns, and for a while they managed a pub together.
My Mom had Breast Cancer when in England and Barry was her savior. He took such good care of her and Mom never told me for years later just how bad it was. She was only in her early 50's, but beat cancer. Mom worked with Barry in the office of there business and did everything together.
Since my Mom left, she came back every year to see me and my family. I had her grandsons Austin and Ryan. Every year, usually twice a year, she spent months with us. She never missed a Christmas, except the year her passport expired, but made it by New Year. She took care of the boys, cooked, helped us and we loved having her with us. She is the reason I never sit down, as she was always doing something. We went on so many family vacations together.
In 2015, Mom was again diagnosed with cancer. But that did not stop her! She never complained and refused to slow down. She got her first new car in 2017. She told me she had never been to a "proper concert". So in 2018, we went to four concerts.
Every year we would take Mother-Daughter vacations. We traveled to Tennessee, Martha's Vineyard, the Keys, and far too many Beaches in Florida to name. My friends were her friends, as we were always together. In 2017 she moved in with us. In 2021 her cancer caught up to her, and she wanted to be with us till her final days, and she was.
I miss my Mother, my Best Friend, who has been there for me Always! I will always remember how brave, determined and passionate she was about her family. She is in heaven now, with her grandson Austin. I know we will meet again. Love you Mom.
