Dr. Matthew K.J. Lim, 85, of Plantation, FL died on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 of a hemorrhagic stroke after treatment at HCA Florida Westside Hospital.

He was Chinese, born in Rangoon, Burma as the second of four children to Dr. Lim Kay Wan and Dr. Aw Ek Hwee. He obtained his medical degree in 1965 and completed additional postgraduate ophthalmology training in England. On his return he married his childhood sweetheart in 1968. Later he immigrated to the US with his wife and two small children, living in Baltimore, MD and Pekin, IL before residing in Plantation since 1985. During his medical career spanning 47 years, including chief of ophthalmology at Broward General Medical Center and Plantation General Hospital, he was in solo private practice until his retirement in 2014.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rita Lim. He is survived by his son Paul Lim of Plantation, FL; daughter Ramona Lim, son-in-law Souheil El-Chemaly, and granddaughter Gabriella El-Chemaly of Brookline, MA; as well as sister Jenny Lim of Austin, TX; and brother Michael Lim of Davis, CA.

His memorial service is Saturday, May 9, 2026, 3:00 pm at First Church of Boynton Beach, 101 N. Seacrest Blvd, Boynton Beach, FL 33435, (561) 732-3435.
