It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Albertha Dixon, who departed this life peacefully in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida at the age of 89.

Born in the serene town of Belvedere, Westmoreland, Jamaica, Dorothy was the beloved daughter of Zacheria and Ethel Ricketts. At the tender age of five, she was lovingly adopted by John and Albertha Ricketts, who raised her with great care in Bethel Town.

Dorothy began her education at Bethel Town Primary School, later attending Merle Grove High School in Kingston where she excelled in her studies and graduated with her O levels. Her academic achievements paved the way for a noble and devoted career in nursing.

As a registered nurse and midwife, Dorothy served with distinction at several of Jamaica’s most respected medical institutions, including Kingston Public Hospital, Jubilee Hospital, Hordley Hospital, Mandeville Hospital, Nuttall Memorial Hospital, and Spanish Town Hospital. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to patient care left an indelible mark on countless lives.

In 1980, she migrated with her family to Florida, USA, where she continued her devoted service in nursing until retirement. She was also a proud and active member of the Jamaica Nurses Association of Florida.

Dorothy was the former wife of Donald Dixon and a loving mother to Jacqueline Dixon, Kevin Dixon and his wife Rebecca, and the late Glen Dixon, whose memory she cherished deeply. She was also a cherished stepmother to Donna, Denise, and Dione.

She found great joy in her role as grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren Leighton, Mizuho, Marcus, and Tessa, as well as her step-grandchildren Dana, Robert, Samiya, Angela, and Camren. Her many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends also held a special place in her heart.

Dorothy was known for her radiant smile, kind nature and cheerful spirit. Her signature response of “Good, good, good!” became a joyful refrain that lifted the hearts of all who knew her. She was a beacon of warmth, generosity and compassion—a true nurturer in every sense.

Dorothy's life was one of service, love, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former colleagues, and the many lives she touched along the way.

Dorothy will be laid to rest alongside her beloved son Glen, reunited in eternal peace.

As we honor her memory, may we carry forward her legacy of kindness, strength, and grace.

In her memory and in lieu of flowers, please consider assisting with a donation to her headstone in care of the family.
