Born Hyrum David Wozab on April 17, 1923, in Los Angeles, California, David built a life defined by service, adventure, and dedication. At age 21, he joined the United States Navy, where he served honorably as a Pharmacist’s Mate, First Class, until his discharge in 1946. He went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Geology and Engineering from the University of Southern California.
While working as an engineer, David was sent to Spain for a project, where he met his lifelong partner, Marguerite “Maggy” Antoinette, a French au pair. They married in the fall of 1956. Following his work in Spain, David joined a project in Amman, Jordan, where their son, Eric, was born two years later.
During his time in Jordan, David’s expertise in water resources led to a career with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, where he spent more than three decades in service. As a Resident Representative, he and his family lived throughout the world, including in San Salvador, Jamaica, the Philippines, Libya, and Greece.
After retiring in the early 1980s, David and Marguerite settled in Kendall, Florida. Following Marguerite’s passing in 2004, David remained in Miami for many years before moving to Covenant Living of Florida Retirement Community in 2019.
At CLOF, David spent much of his time journaling, scrapbooking, drinking wine with friends at the weekly wine club, and spending more time with his immediate family who lived 10 minutes away.
David lived a life rich with purpose, curiosity, and love. He passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones.
He is survived by his son, Eric Wozab (Sophie Wozab), and his granddaughter, Natalya Wozab.
