Charles "Charlie" Leonard Hoag, Jr.

June 21, 1949 — October 1, 2020

Charles “Charlie” Leonard Hoag Jr. died Thursday, October 1 at his home in Weston FL. Born in Middlebury, VT on June 21, 1949, he was the son of the late Dr. Charles Leonard ""Len'' Hoag Sr., the late Mary Graham Croom Hoag, and the brother of the late Mary Moore "Mimi" Hoag, J.D.

Charlie spent his early life in Middlebury where he developed a lifelong love of music, cats, and friends. He played guitar with friends every chance he got and as he got older, he learned how to organize and manage local rock bands that could play hometown venues. This he continued to do with gusto well into retirement.

He lived for many years in Arlington, VA where he worked as a legislative aide in Congress. He followed in his mother’s and older sister’s footsteps as a true-blue member of the Democratic party. He told us of shaking hands with John F. Kennedy as a child and in his career he unfailingly researched and supported Democratic legislative initiatives that formed the basis of affirmative action and civil rights. He had a gentle spirit, but he was also good in a fight – the perfect fit for working with politicians.

Charlie retired to Weston in 2001. Several of his good friends had retired to South Florida previously and he looked forward to being near them. With his cat Cooley by his side he continued sharing his love of music, Democrats, and good times with his intimate circle of friends.

Charlie is survived by his cousins, Marguerite Moore Sirrine of Raleigh, NC; Walter G. Moore of Sanford, NC; Helen Moore Michaels of St. Paul, MN; James Lee Moore of Marietta, GA; and other family and friends.
