Listen to Obituary

Cecil Barrington D’Aguilar, 81, entered into rest on January 14, 2026, passing away peacefully at his home in Plantation, Florida.

Cecil was a private man who kept much of his inner life to himself. He was steady and observant — a man whose presence was felt more through calm consistency than through display.

Though he was not outwardly expressive with his emotions, you could hear the love and kindness in his voice. He listened — truly listened — and rarely judged or criticized the choices others made. It seemed as though his instinct was to quietly consider whether a given choice would help or harm the person speaking, and if he believed it was safe, he offered his support. He asked thoughtful follow-up questions, not to challenge, but to understand more. His curiosity came from a place of care, and his interest was genuine.

Cecil was born in Portland, Jamaica. His formative years were spent in Fairy Hills, Portland, where we still have an uncle residing.

Cecil is predeceased by Louise Hall-Dawkins, who died in 2008.

He was the oldest of 5 siblings: Trevor Dawkins, Shirley Dawkins, Marva Dawkins-McCarthy, Gloria Dawkins-Bailey, and Aubrey Dawkins.

Cecil is survived by his 3 children, Angela D’Aguilar, Stephen Richards, and Shari D’Aguilar. He was a grandfather to Cassandra D’Aguilar, Keyanna Scott, Kevin Scott, and Stephan Richards. Before his passing, he also had the opportunity to spend time with his 2 great granddaughters, Kylah Scott and K’Lani Scott.

Cecil seemed to convey his feelings more through tone than through words themselves; it was often the warmth or steadiness in how something was said, rather than what was said, that revealed what he felt.

Cecil’s love showed up in quiet ways — in patience, in attention, and in respect for the lives and decisions of others. Those who knew him will remember the calm reassurance of being heard, the comfort of his steady presence, and the subtle but enduring way he showed that he cared.

Cecil will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
