Brenda Farrell

January 19, 1955 — March 17, 2024

Hollywood

On March 17, 2024 (St. Patrick's Day), Brenda Farrell, a mother, entrepreneur, and lifelong resident of South Florida, passed in her home at age 69. She is survived by her daughter Shana, son-in-law Aaron, 3 granddaughters, Katlyn, Kayla, and Sophia Smith, brothers Gary, Raymond, and Robert Brown, sister Gaynor O'Brien, and countless nieces and nephews. Brenda was born in Miami, Florida on January 19, 1955. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, her parents, sister Terri, brother Steve, and granddaughter Emma.

Brenda was a South Floridian through and through. She fell in love with her husband here, stepped into motherhood here, and became a successful businesswoman here.  She was a graduate of Nova Southeastern University and an avid fan of Miami sports, especially the Miami Dolphins, for better or (mostly) worse. Brenda married the love of her life, Peter Farrell, on June 9, 1973 and later welcomed her daughter, Shana, who was the most important piece of her world.

Brenda was a woman who loved her family and friends fiercely, just a little bit more than she loved the Dolphins.  Her favorite nights consisted of the entire family around a card table, with heated debates about whether or not the cards were shuffled properly, often playing for hours into the night. She was a fun-loving grandmother and a reliable presence in the childhood memories of all 3 of her grandchildren. She never missed a school play or game, and you could always count on her to give a referee a piece of her mind if a bad call was made on one of her granddaughters. She hosted every family gathering alongside Peter, and never missed an opportunity to welcome family, friends, and any of their family or friends, into her home. Brenda was the glue that bound her family for many years.

Brenda also had an incredible impact on the community around her. She spent many years volunteering her time and skills at the Jubilee Center in Hollywood, Florida. She was an aid to many of the homeless people in her community in getting driver's licenses, birth certificates, mail, and warm meals. She also spent many Christmases working to ensure that the homeless children of Hollywood got to open presents by organizing large-scale toy drives. She profoundly impacted anyone who had the privilege of meeting her. Brenda’s absence will be felt throughout the South Florida community and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

In honor of Brenda, we ask that you wear green for St. Patrick's Day or Miami Dolphins attire to the service.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the All Saints Episcopal Church, which was very important to Brenda, or the American Heart Association.
