Betty Anne Ozelas

Betty Ann Ozelas, long time resident of Plantation, originally from Hackensack and Lodi, NJ, passed away on August 15, 2026, in Sunrise, FL from dementia complications. Born in 1937, Betty was 88 years old.

Betty was a friend to many, hardworking and fun loving. She grew up in New Jersey where her first job was at a button factory, then a secretary at Bendix. She married Stan Frelzack, and had a daughter, Ann. After Stan passed from cancer, she met Capt. Wally Ozelas at a roller rink, who whisked her off to Florida. Wally made Betty his first mate on the Wemyss family yacht which he captained. Betty cherished the years sailing up and down the Atlantic coast with her Captain. She also worked at SEL Systems/Gould Inc. until her successful career at the Plantation Police Dept. She became Chief Massy’s secretary, retiring in 2004. Even after retirement, she held policemen of Plantation in high esteem.

Betty loved animals, especially, dogs, along with butterflies, zebras, and cougars. She always had a dog, and Jake was her last faithful companion.

Betty was active in clubs, such as the Elks, Plantation Garden Club, Plantation Historical Museum, and After-Fifty Club. Betty often had a garden to attract butterflies. She loved the Lauderdale West community, saying she lived in paradise. Mostly, she loved Jesus, being active at St. Gregory the Great, ushering there for years.

Betty loved traveling all over the world with her friend Carol and After-Fifty Club. Betty had a heart of service, looking out for her friends and family.

Betty is survived by her daughter Ann Frelzack of NJ., her nieces Margarete Dunn Bartholomew, Kathyrn Dunn, and nephew Michael Dunn. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William Dunn and John Dunn.

Visitation will be at T.M. Ralph of Plantation, Thursday, 5:00PM-7:00PM October 8, 2026. Mass follows at St. Gregory the Great on October 9, 2026, at 11:30AM.
