Betty Jo Newman

Betty Jo Newman peacefully passed to join the Lord and her loved ones on Friday, May 7, 2021. She was born June 3, 1937 in Atlanta, GA and grew up in Gainesville FL where she met and married her lifelong love Hurt. The family moved to Plantation in 1963 where she returned to school obtaining her teaching degree. Teaching gave her the most pleasure having spent her career at Crystal Lake M. S. and Seminole M. S. where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year at each school. With her passion for books, she was a long-time member of the Friends of Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library and the GFWC Plantation Women’s Club where she was recognized as Woman of the Year, May 2010. She is predeceased by Hurt, and her two sons Jimmy and Johnny. She is survived by her son Howard and his wife Susan of Orlando, and grandchildren Rebecca, Howie and Nancy, and daughter Mary and her husband Gayle of Hendersonville, NC. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 24 at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th Ave., Plantation FL between the hours of 4 to 5 pm with a service to follow at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library would be appreciated.
