Barry is survived by his wife Susan, son Barry Lee II, daughter Brittany Lauren, brothers Rod, Kevin, Shawn and, sister Mary along with several nieces and nephews. Barry was born in Mercy Hospital, Miami, FL which made him a “true Florida boy”. He attended Hialeah High School and graduated in 1974. He was then recruited via a football scholarship to Davidson College in North Carolina. After two semesters in North Carolina he decided to come back to Florida where he was accepted to University of Florida, Gainesville where he graduated from the Fisher School of Accounting with a BS in 1979. In August of 1985 he met who would become his current wife, Susan Uprichard of Carmel, New York. They were married January 3, 1987. During the first year of marriage the couple purchased a new home in Davie, had their first child – Barry II and Barry embarked on a new career with a “little known at the time” university which consisted of three white buildings hidden amongst pine trees off of the “two-lane” University Drive, now known as Nova Southeastern University. It was at NSU that Barry forged a 33 year career (and had a second child - Brittany to add to the mix) and was part of its growth through 2020 at the time of his passing. Barry was a caring and compassionate individual whom will be remembered with love and great affection. May God bless you and you keep you close. We love you! Friends and family will be welcomed starting at 10 AM, at T.M. Ralph Sawgrass Funeral Home, 371 NW 136th Avenue, Sunrise, FL 33325 on Saturday, August 29 with a memorial service to follow at 11 AM. The Funeral Service will be live streamed on this page starting Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11:00 AM Eastern Standard Time for those unable to atttend. You may also return at a later time and view the service. In his memory the family suggests donations to Memorial Hospital Foundation to help others. Due to the difficulty of these times, community guidelines restrict the number of people that can attend in person. We thank you for your love, support and understanding.
