Barbara Mirth Humphries, Martineau NEE: Watts also known as “Aunt Babs" was born in Jamaica West Indies in Cambridge, Saint James on the 14th day of July 1935. She was the third of four children born to Keturah and Henry Watts.
She was educated at Cambridge primary school, Montego Bay High school and at Clarendon College.
She went to England at 18 years old, where she successfully pursued the courses in nursing and midwifery. She graduated with honors and moved on to work in Canada, Jamaica and finally the United States in 1968.
She was dedicated to her nursing profession and very much loved by her patients and all who came to knew her. People were drawn to her by her beautiful smile. She smiled a lot and the world smile back. She always felt very blessed.
Barbara was married first to Edney George Humphries (who was the love of her life) and that marriage produced three lovely children named Kevin, Steven and Suzette. Her second marriage was to Septimius Martineau.
She lived a full and very privileged life. She loved to travel and went as far as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea with her beloved cousin, Lorna a.k.a Cuz Cuz, who was like a niece to her. She also enjoyed many cruises and even flew on the Concorde from New York to Jamaica.
She believed in God, our father and was always preparing to meet Him. Barbara said “ I have been preparing to meet my heavenly father for a long time, and I will have a big reunion with my family who passed on before me. So relax and laugh.”
May He open the gates of heaven and welcome her in and may His perpetual light shine on her.
