Barbara Evans, née Bailey, passed away on May 12, 2026, in Plantation, Florida, after a long illness. Born on October 17, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she lived most of her life in the East Falls section of the city. Barbara lived a life marked by dedication, passion, and an enduring love for both family and the arts.
Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Frances “Sue” Bailey and sister of the late Frank Bailey. She was the wife of the late Philadelphia-based jazz pianist Edward Evans. She is mourned alongside her beloved son, Mark Evans, who preceded her in death.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Lorraine Evans Smith, who acted as her primary caregiver, and her husband, Tom; Brian Evans and his wife, Yukari; Larry Evans; and Felicia Maisey and her husband, Michael. Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren: Sabrina, Alex, Eric, Alexis, Caitlin, Noah, Francis, Michael, and Rory.
Barbara’s professional journey was distinguished by her role as Wallpaper Manager at Buten Paints in Philadelphia. Her career took a new turn in 1988, when she relocated to Fort Lauderdale to work with Tom and Lorraine.
A devoted admirer of architecture, Barbara held a particular admiration for Frank Lloyd Wright. Her appreciation extended beyond mere admiration; she delighted in visiting his buildings and curating a special collection of items designed by the legendary architect, reflecting her deep appreciation for design and creativity.
Among her many proud achievements, Barbara’s pivotal role in launching Philadelphia’s inaugural cycle race stands out. As the Grand Marshal, she had the honor of awarding the winning trophy to Olympian Eric Heiden, a testament to her spirit and community involvement.
