Annie Ryan passed away at approximately 1:00 a.m. on August 15, 2026. She is survived by her husband, Al DeSarro; nine siblings; 39 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and in-laws.

From the time Annie attended the Basilica of St. Mary’s in Minneapolis, she was energetic, kind, honest, and GENEROUS to a fault. That never changed.

Eventually, Annie earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Colorado. She then continued her education at Georgia State University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Interior Design.

Annie then started her first business. She incorporated The Department of Interiors, Inc. ( a clever name, everybody took her calls). Her first big project was designing the interiors of the new PGA Headquarters, for which she won awards and received lots of recognition in the business. She made her own way in the world, and she was very good at it.

Annie and Al were married at St. Mark’s in Palm Beach Gardens with out-of-state relatives joining the celebration by Zoom. She LOVED Al. Together, they enjoyed cruises, dancing, table games, meeting people, and making time for church.

If Annie was attending a family affair, she never came empty handed. She always brought something and usually something wonderful. Children loved her. Her contagious, upbeat attitude and her genuine concern for young children made her the legendary Aunt Annie.

On the holidays, Annie arrived looking like a million bucks. She looked beautiful in green, and her stone was emerald. With her red hair, there was never any question about her Irish heritage.

If you had to choose the one principle that was most important to Annie, it would be the Golden Rule: treat others the way you would want to be treated. She lived by it every day. It was her North Star.

Annie was good friends with her second cousin, Syl Ryan, the Bishop of Monterey, California. Over the phone, Syl assured her that she would go to heaven. That made Annie smile, and any fear she had seemed to melt away. Syl is 94 and was planning to greet her. Now, Annie will meet Syl at the gate.

We all loved Annie, and we will think of her always.

The words of a children’s song, with a little Ryan family license, perfectly reflect the sentiments of the entire Ryan Clan:

She’ll be coming around the mountain when she comes.

She’ll be riding six White horses when she comes.

Oh they’ll all go outside to greet her

She’ll be bearing chocolate cake when they meet her

She’ll be coming around the mountain when she comes.

And knowing Annie, she’ll make sure there’s enough for everyone.
