Andres Angel Fraga was born May 20th, 1938 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Of Spanish/Italian descent, he was raised along with his younger sister Matilde with strong values of family and honor. He entered the Uruguayan Naval Academy and graduated first in class, becoming a Lieutenant in their Navy. He was honored to be invited by the U.S. Navy to participate in training with the United States Navy Dive School to become a deep sea diver.
It was while in Washington D.C. that he met his future wife, Magdalena Mejia. They fell madly in love and were married within 3 months. They decided to stay in Washington D.C. Andres finished his commission with the Navy and began his studies at the University of Maryland. After completing his Masters degree in Electrical Engineering he was hired by Bendix Corporation. Later Bendix offered a transfer to their new Fort Lauderdale offices. He was then hired by Eastern Airlines, rising quickly due to his intelligence, work ethics, and professionalism to become the Chief of Avionics Engineering for Eastern Airlines, at the time the largest airline in the world. He later became the President of DynAir Avionics and eventually began his own company, MAS Avionics, with important clients around the world.
His love of the sea never left him, he enjoyed boating and diving with his three sons. Many weekends were spent at their Key Largo home in Buttonwood Bay. Andres and Magda had many friends and often entertained in their home, Andres at the grill, Magda in the kitchen, surrounded by friends and family. Those nights often ended in dancing, with Andres and Magda showing their excellent dancing skills. Along with the sea, he enjoyed traveling the world and visited over 50 countries with Magda, their three sons, and often with friends.
Andres was stricken with Alzheimer’s Disease in his early 70s and had to close his company. The disease progressed slowly until he required full time care at home and was bedridden and unable to communicate in his last 3 years. In those 17 years Magda took excellent care of him in their home, assisted by wonderful caregivers.
