Affell Grier, Sr.

On May 6, 2024, Affell was called home to Glory.

Affell was born on December 4, 1933 in Ocilla, Georgia to the late Mr. Jimmy Lee Grier and Essie Mae Forbes-Daniels. He had no siblings.

During his youth, Affell resided in the town of Abba in Irwin County with his grandparents, Jo Plaze and Mandy Forbes. At the age of 15, he moved to Valdosta, Georgia to live with his mother and stepfather, Mr. Remus Daniels.

In October of 1953, Affell joined the United States Army and married Mary Frances Orr. In the mid sixties, after completing his years of service with the Army Reserves (which he later joined), Affell moved his family to Fort Lauderdale, FL - where several of his first cousins lived. There, he started a career in construction and worked for many years.

Soon after, Affell took up another trade as an automotive technician.

Affell played baseball and golf, and enjoyed fishing.

Affell Grier was a Christian and a beloved family member. One of his famous sayings was, "What room am I sleeping in tonight?" (Mary, his wife, loved to move things around in the house.

Affell is proceeded in death by:

 Parents - Jimmy Lee Grier and Essie Forbes-Daniels

 Wife - Mary Frances Orr-Grier

 Children and grandchildren - Sarah Grier, Cilicia Grier-White, Alphonso Grier Jr. & Samantha Grier

He leaves to morn his passing five children: Willie Mae Alexander (Charlie), Mary Frances Grier, Affell Grier Jr. (Juanita), Essie Denoms and Alphonso Grier, grand and great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
