Frank Mazzarella

April 28, 1924 — December 18, 2014

Frank Mazzarella passed peacefully on December 18, 2014 at his home in Weston, Florida. Frank was born on April 28, 1924 in Elizabeth, New Jersey where he lived most of his life. He was the youngest among 3 children. He was the baby brother to his older sisters, Mary and Ann, whom he loved deeply. He was the husband of his beloved wife, Gloria, who died in 2010. He is survived by his daughter Lisa of Weston and his son, Pat of Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also survived by his son-in-law Donald, his daughter-in-law, Sue and his grandchildren, Annie and Jared. Frank served proudly in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Ocean on the battleship, the USS Roche. Upon his return he began his career as a supervising pipe fitter for the GAF Corporation where he worked for nearly 48 years. He was married to Gloria On November 4th, 1951 at St. Anthony’s church in Elizabeth. Frank was one of the original “good guys” in the neighborhood and always volunteered his time, whether calling bingo or working at the carnival, or helping with the baseball Little League. Frank was the greatest family man and a friend to all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was loved by all in his family including nieces and nephews scattered across the country. He did so much for everyone, always so unselfishly and so tirelessly. He was among the first to participate in The Honor Flight program that celebrates those members of our greatest generation by a trip to Washington, DC to visit the WWII memorial. He was justifiably proud and deservedly so. It’s no surprise to anyone that he served his country so proudly. It was the right thing to do and he ALWAYS did the right thing. His sense of generosity and caring was overwhelming. He moved to Weston 8 years ago with Gloria. He made so many new friends at his new home and they provided much joy to him. He was a regular communicant at St. Bonaventure Church in nearby Davie, where Father Ed welcomed him and comforted him on the death of Gloria. He so looked forward to his Thursday afternoon’s playing cards at the church. How he loved his grandchildren! They brought a smile to his face whenever he got to spend time with them and the memories of those visits will live on. A joyous celebration was held at his daughter’s home this year to celebrate his 90th birthday. Relatives, friends and neighbors were on hand and all had a wonderful time. All who knew him will certainly miss him. God has called him and though those of us here will miss him, Frank will surely be happy to be reunited with Gloria. May he rest in peace as God welcomes him to heaven. Visitation will be Sunday 2:00-5:00 PM at the T.M. Ralph Funeral Home Sawgrass/Weston 371 NW 136 Avenue Sunrise, FL 33325. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday 10:00AM at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow at South Florida VA National Cemetery at 12:45 PM. In his memory donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
