Helen Elizabeth Maher

Helen Elizabeth Maher passed away October 27, 2014 surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Massachusetts, she had been a resident of South Florida since 1978. She was proud of her Irish Heritage, and Nana to everyone. She worked in many jobs as a Transcriptionist, and administrative assistant, including with Sunrise Fire Rescue Department as Secretary to Chief John Komasa. Her proudest job was being a Mom. She was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, and tailgated as long as she was able. She was a dog lover. Giving and compassionate, kind and always understanding, she will always live on in the hearts of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Read, and Margarita (nee Bolger) Read, & brother James Henry Read, who died at the close of WWII. He was missed and remembered by her throughout her life. She is survived by her 5 daughters, and son in laws, Kathleen Ann (George) Emrick, Susan Helen (Barney) Sciacca, Marian “Mimi” Rita (Gregory) Duty Nancy Alice (James) Rice, Joan Lorraine (Andrew) Pixley. Her 14 grandchildren and spouses, James and Nicole, Anthony (Nikki), William (Samantha), Christopher, Kelly (Leaton) Alison, Kyle, Ryan, Shannon, Cody, Katie (Ryan), Victoria, and Charles. Her great grandchildren Jayden and Lilly, and she was anticipating the birth of Emilia Rose. Many special in-laws, cousins, friends, and other loving extended family also survive her. Friends will be received at the T.M. Ralph Funeral Home 371 NW 136 Avenue on Friday from 10:00AM until 12:00 Noon. A special sharing of memories will be led at the funeral home on Friday morning. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Church at 1:00 PM. The family will continue to receive friends at her home after the funeral mass on Friday
