Anita H. Daugherty

October 28, 1937 — June 13, 2014

Anita H. Daugherty passed peacefully on June 13, 2014 at Westside Regional Hospital with her family by her side after suffering an aneurysm Wednesday evening. Anita is now with the Lord and her beloved husband John who preceded her. Anita leaves her daughter Donna and son-in law Larry Thompson of Lauderhill , daughter Lisa Daugherty of Fort Lauderdale , son Kevin and daughter-in-law Rosemary Daugherty of Plantation and son John of Lauderhill. Anita’s grandchildren; Amy Thompson, Sarah and her husband Scott Hubbard, Jessica Thompson, John Baglia, Megan, Kevin Jr, Anna Daugherty, Tyler and Hannah Daugherty, great grand-child Liam Hubbard and her brother Lawrence Hand of Stuart. Born at home and raised in Rio Grande ( Cape May County ), N. J., her parents were Harold and Anna (Sharkey) Hand. Anita grew up on a farm, attended Middle Township High School and met her sweatheart and partner in life John Sr when they were both in junior high school. They married in 1956 and started their family soon after. Anita was the heart of her family, her home was the gathering place for holidays, birthdays, and family mile-stones as she put all her energy into her family’s lives and her church, St. Benedicts in Plantation . Anita greatest joy was the witnessing and celebrating the accomplishments of family and friends, entertaining, going to the arts, theater, and gardening around her home. Anita worked at Jersey Bell, Travelers, retail management and the family business Poppy’s Pizza and Subs in Sunrise ; but her main focus in life was her family and church. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Benedicts in Plantation with internment at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Fort Lauderdale .
