Catherine Ann Kohrt, 54 Davie FL – a wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher and friend passed away on April 27, 2014 after losing a hard fought battle to brain cancer. “If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8 Born to John M Gregory [1998] and Norma J [Herbkersman] Gregory on Sept 27, 1959 in Missoula, MT. Sisters Cheryl Hall, Billings, MT and Debra Gregory, Missoula, MT and brothers, Dave [Debbie] Gregory, John Gregory and Brian [Ellie] Gregory, all of Missoula, MT. Married Michael R Kohrt, Oct 26, 1985 in Missoula, Mt. Children Catherine Ashley Kohrt, Orlando, FL, Tyler Kohrt and Morgan Kohrt, both of Davie, FL. Graduated Carroll College, Helena, MT 1981 with BS in Elementary Education and Nova Southeastern University, Davie FL 1999 with Masters in Education Administration. Taught school in Kalispell, MT; Salt Lake City, UT; Denver, CO; St Louis, MO; Charlotte, NC and then settled in Dave, FL. Started teaching at St Mark Catholic School as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher and then First Grade. Moved to St Stephens Catholic School as Principal and then back to St Mark Catholic School as 8th Grade teacher. She then moved to Archbishop McCarthy High School and taught Theology and Social Justice. Approaching each student as an individual and finding a way to connect with them allowed her classroom to truly be a place of learning. Some really lucky students had “Mrs Kohrt” as their first grade, middle school and high school teacher – but if you got Mrs Kohrt once, you were lucky already. It was at Archbishop McCarthy High School that she was able to bring life into the classroom with her students in and out of school. Her favorite extracurricular activities with the students included being Junior Class Moderator and advisor to Peace and Justice and Amor En Accion; this allowed her and her students to make an impact in their lives and in the lives of others. Mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic allowed her students to see the world differently and reinforce that just one person can make a significant impact. She continually challenged her students to look at the world differently and to stand up for those in need. She was involved in scrapbooking and poured her heart into the pages and cards that she made. And if that wasn’t enough she was an avid University of Central Florida Knights fan where her three children all attended college. We are blessed to have had Catherine in our lives. We see the impact she had on all those around her and we know to continue to live our lives by the example she lived. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home Sawgrass/Weston 371 NW 136 Avenue Sunrise, FL 33325. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held Wednesday 10:00AM at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church 1301 SW 136 Avenue Davie, FL.
