Catherine Watts Blanton

Catherine "Cathy" Watts Blanton, 89, of Davie, FL passed away February 4, 2014. She is survived by her son, David (Elizabeth) Edward Blanton of Peachtree City, GA; daughter, Lynn (Phil) Smithof Davie, FL; grandchildren, Christopher Blanton, Jessica Blanton, Matthew Blanton, Todd Smith, Ryan Smith, Jay Cooper and Scottie Rey. Cathy Blanton was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 17, 1924. She attended grade school in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Landon High School.  She then attended Florida State Women’s College and graduated from Jones Business College. She wrote a syndicated column for five North Carolina Newspapers and was a member of the Writers Guild of America and was a part-time model.   She retired after a 23 years career with Sears and Roebuck in Coral Gables and went on to organized a Sears Retiree Group for Dade County.  Of her many accomplishment she served as President of the Landon High School Alumni Association for South Florida, was a member of the Coral Gables Methodist Church, Coral Gables Country Club, Coral Gables Theater Group, Coral Gables Garden Club, Coral Gables Singles Club, The Coral Gables Country Club Fleet, Coral Gables People To People, she also served as Coral Gables Women Club President and the President of the Coral Gables Bush Cancer Chapter of the University of Miami.  A Memorial Service will be celebrated Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM. in the chapel at First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables 536 Coral Way, Coral Gables, FL 33134,  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a cancer charity of your choice.
